Shadan
Quick start
- Open the Shadan app and turn on Shadan in Safari’s Extensions settings.
- Open a site you browse, like x.com, click the Shadan button in Safari’s toolbar, and choose Always Allow on This Website.
- Right-click a photo or video and choose Hide with Shadan.
- Confirm the look-alikes Shadan finds. It learns from every answer.
Troubleshooting
The popup says “0 images checked”
- Allow the site in Safari → Settings → Websites → Shadan, then reload the page.
A hidden image isn’t hidden after a reload
- Reload the page again.
- If that doesn’t help, turn Shadan off and on again in Safari → Settings → Extensions.
Shadan hid something it shouldn’t have
- Click Show, then answer No to “Hide images like this?”. Shadan learns from your answer.
Images blur briefly while loading
- This is normal. Shadan checks each new image before showing it, usually in well under a second.
Some images behind a login aren’t checked
- Most sites, including X, serve their images publicly, so being logged in doesn’t matter. A few sites only serve images to logged-in visitors; Shadan can’t download those to check them, so they’re shown normally.
The review screen finds few or no look-alikes
- Shadan looks for look-alikes among the images you’ve recently scrolled past, so right after installing it has little to compare against. Browse for a while, then open the Shadan popup and choose Review more.
Remove a topic
- Open the Shadan popup from Safari’s toolbar, click Delete next to the topic, then click again to confirm.
Requirements and limitations
- Requires macOS 15 or later, Safari, and a Mac with Apple silicon.
- Works on X and the other sites you allow.
- Videos are checked by their poster frame only.
- Very small images, such as icons and avatars, are skipped.
- Recognition is assistance, not a guarantee. Some images you’d rather not see may still get through.
Reporting bugs
In the Shadan app, choose About Shadan → Report a Bug…. This opens an email draft with an anonymous diagnostics log attached, which you can review before sending.
